In the early 1900s, Abraham Minkin was on a train to a re-education camp for young Jewish men in Russia. Things were particularly difficult for Jews in Russia during this time. Pogroms, or anti-Jewish mobs, were rapant. Abraham was looking for a way out. The story is that he jumped off that train and escaped. Several years later, he made his way to America with his wife, Sadie. Together they had four boys. Abraham and many of his desdendants worked with their hands in the arts and crafts. The Minkin Craft Train is a family reunion that celebrates Abraham’s arrival in America and the rich history of craft in our family. The reunion will take place at the Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel with craft seminars for the whole family.
